Walking

There are walks to suit all abilities from mountaineering to beautiful woodland walks for the less ambulant. From climbing Ben Nevis to an easy and relaxing walk around nearby Glencoe Lochan.

Climbing

Ice Factor – The Ice Factor is an indoor climbing centre in the old smelter in Kinlochleven, a 20 minute drive from Onich. It has climbing walls, bouldering walls and an ice climbing chamber. There is also an outdoor equipment shop, a large cafe, and a bar. For the younger visitor there is a new 100m2 indoor children’s play area which is free to café users.

Mountain Biking

Nevis Range offers everything from the internationally acclaimed Off Beat downhill track (which is not for the faint hearted) to family forest trails. Mountain bikes are available to hire in the area.

Golf

Fort William – Fort William golf course, established in 1976, is an 18 hole course situated on the North side of Fort William at the base of Ben Nevis.

Dragons Tooth – this nine hole course is one of the Highlands newest Golf courses. Situated in Glenachulish, it is 2 miles from the Old Manse.

Outdoor Sports

Vertical Descents is an outdoor activity centre situated a few minutes from The Old Manse. It offers a wide range of activities including Canyoning, Climbing and Abseiling, White Water Rafting, Fun Yakking, Bridge, Paint Ball and Mountain Biking.

Jacobite Steam Train

A great day out in the path of the “Hogwarts Express”. The 82 mile round Jacobite Steam Train trip from Fort William to Mallaig takes around 6 hours, this includes a stop for lunch in the fishing village of Mallaig. The route also takes in views of Ben Nevis and crosses the famous 21-arch viaduct at Glenfinnan.
